Dallas Market Center Announces Updated Health & Safety Policies for January Markets

New Measures Include 50% Occupancy Limit Across Campus; No Special Events

Following eight months of successful trade events serving loyal and new buyers, Dallas Market Center has announced updated health and safety guidelines for all January markets. New measures include a 50% occupancy limit across campus and no gatherings including special events.

The new efforts have been added to existing protocols under the Plan Ahead, Safely guidelines that include mandatory face coverings and a temperature checks for everyone entering the marketplace. The comprehensive guidelines cover facility operations, registration, food and beverage service, shuttles, employee screening, and other important topics. The updated Plan Ahead, Safely guidelines are available via the front page of the Dallas Market Center website.

“As buyers plan their trip to January markets we want to assure them that we have created a safe and healthy environment that exceeds the recommendations and mandates from national and local health officials,” said Cindy Morris, president and CEO. “Our policies and our experience over the last eight months, together with design features including large parking lots, wide entries and hallways, and multiple escalators, create the safest possible environment among all market centers and trade events.”

Given the large size of DMC’s buildings, the 50% capacity limit still allows for all customers to attend shows in January. Showrooms will communicate capacity limits to arriving guests as well as their own procedures for social distancing and hospitality. Gatherings, including special events such as the previously scheduled HEARTS Awards and Lighting After Dark party will not occur. In their place will be socially-distanced hospitality including roving carts and grab-and-go happy hours.

Food service at market will include multiple outlets open every day.Seated dining and take-away options will be available. Check the market pages on the DMC website or the DMC app for complete details.
Supporting the business of retail and design, more than 90% of showrooms will be open including 150 showrooms that are new, expanded or relocated. Pre-registration by buyers is steady including buyers registering for the FastPass for quick, low-contact entry.
Dallas Market Center’s health and safety guidelines will continue to be updated as conditions warrant. The latest national data show that Texas ranks 34th among 50 states in COVID-19 cases per 100,000. Furthermore, local data show that Dallas Market Center is located in one of the least vulnerable ZIP codes in the state. Increasing case counts in the state are located in ZIP codes more than 500 miles away—roughly the same distance from Dallas as Kansas City.
Dallas Market Center has created a series of trade events in January with strict attention to health and safety. Those events include Total Home and Gift Market (January 6-12); Lightovation: Dallas International Lighting Show (January 7-10); WESA’s International Western/English Apparel & Equipment Market, the AETA International Trade Show, and AETA Temps (January 14-17); Dallas Apparel & Accessories Market, and Kidsworld Market (January 12-15).
In addition to January markets, Dallas Market Center will hold dozens of trade events in 2021 supporting buyers on their schedule. Those events include markets but also Open Houses and First Monday and Tuesdays. A complete calendar is available on the Dallas Market Center website.
