Topsville, the children’s wear division of Maywood, N.J.-based Jaclyn Inc., introduces Scarce—a new premium brand with a rock-’n’-roll vibe for boys sizes 2 to 20. The label is the brainchild of Jeff Korman, who oversaw the DCoded boys’ brand, which Success Apparel of New York launched in Macy’s stores last year.

Mark Nitzberg, president of Topsville, noted that his company’s success as supplier of boys’ private-label apparel sparked the decision to add a brand of its own. Korman—now Topsville’s senior vice president of new development—said he saw a void in the market for an edgy boys’ line that covered sizes 2 to 7. He wanted to bring a surf, skate aesthetic down to even younger boys, noticing that urban looks have died off.

The initial Scarce collection includes T-shirts, hoodies, denim and wovens featuring interesting fabric, dyeing and printing treatments. Look for Union Jack, skulls and music motifs, plus foil prints and plaids. Topsville is also creating a line called Remastered, which will have a similar look but lower prices for mid-tier retailers.
