In a study conduced by research group eDigitalResearch and online business consultancy Portaltech, half of smartphone owners have made a purchase via their handset. That number grew 20 percent between June 2010 and March 2011; at least 11 percent of smartphone users make weekly purchases. The study also reports an increasing number of people expect more from mobile websites than they did a year ago. Director of eDigitalReseach, Chris Russell says the study alludes to “a shopping revolution where the consumer now has the power to dictate to retailers where, when and how they want to shop and interact.”
