The new collection of Skechers styles feature Goodyear rubber technology outsoles for enhanced grip, stability and durability.
Skechers is asking consumers to get a grip! Goodyear tires are known and trusted for their incredible driving traction, and now they’re lending that same grip, stability and lightweight durability to Skechers. The footwear company has teamed up with Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company—one of the world’s largest tire companies—to create custom outsoles that yield enhanced performance on its footwear.
“Goodyear has always worked to create innovative products that provide consumers with high-performance tires,” says Christian Jurado, Goodyear’s global director of licensed products. “Now we’re using that same ingenuity to enable consumers to wear high-performance shoes.”
Select Skechers products will get Goodyear Performance Outsoles, offering greater stability on a run, better grip in adverse weather or on slippery surfaces in the workplace, or durability on the playground for long-lasting wear.
Analyst site The Motley Fool cited this as an excellent move for Skechers and a way for it to amp up its competitive technology. Skechers already crushed third and fourth-quarter earnings and won Best New Running Shoe from Runners World.
Skechers road-tested its Goodyear Performance Outsoles on three of its GOrun running shoes and is now rolling out the technology to a wider assortment of running and walking sneakers. Through 2020, it will expand the outsoles to athletic lifestyle, trail, and work footwear categories for men, women and kids. Retails for the Goodyear Performance Outsole product are slightly higher due to the advanced technology, notes Skechers.
Goodyear’s proprietary rubber technology contains a polymer including sustainable soybean oil—a renewable, bio-based material used in some of the company’s top-performing tires (Assurance WeatherReady, Eagle Exhilarate and Eagle Enforcer All Weather and Assurance ComfortDrive.)
“It’s a collaboration of two trusted brands coming together to create a high-tech product,” says Michael Greenberg, Skechers president. “We expect this will resonate with our customers who need these innovations in the comfortable Skechers footwear that they love.”
