According to show management, the New York International Gift Fair (NYIGF) held Aug. 14-19 saw strong order-writing among buyers and a 6.5-percent increase in retailer attendance over last year’s edition. The show housed approximately 2,800 exhibitors in the Javits Center as well as at Piers 92 and 94 and reportedly drew 33,500 attendees in total.

“NYIGF’s timing—as the last major market of the summer season—was beneficial for buyers and exhibitors alike, with many retailers making their final purchasing decisions here in New York,” said Dorothy Belshaw, NYIGF director and GLM senior vice president. She noted that the show’s new search platform helped buyers source products and conduct lead generation in advance of the show.

Other highlights of this edition included the debut of the Baby & Child division, which was met with praise for its well-designed, sophisticated and purpose-driven selection of kids’ items. Some 150 companies—including 47 newcomers—participated in the launch. Lisa Lowe of exhibitor Sugar Booger noted, “We always have had a good show in General Gift, but we’ve had a great show here in Baby & Child, since customers came to this division with intention. Our customers are thankful for the new location, where they can now find us quickly and easily.”

The Winter 2011 edition of NYIGF will run Jan. 29-Feb. 3 in the same location. For further details, visit www.nyigf.com.
