Nickelodeon has purchased the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) property from 4 Kids Entertainment and The Mirage Group for a reported sum of $60 million. The property is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year.
“TMNT shares a comedic sensibility with the Nickelodeon DNA, with added layers of action and fantasy that have kept this property an evergreen favorite with multiple generations of audiences,” stated Cyma Zarghami, president of Nickelodeon/MTV Networks’ Kids and Family Group. “We are extremely happy to have the opportunity to be able to focus on this property and creatively re-introduce it to a new generation of kids.”
The company has plans for a new CGI-animated series for 2010 and a film produced in partnership with Paramount Pictures. Nickelodeon will continue to work with the property’s longstanding toy partner Playmates Toys. Visit www.nick.com.
