Investment company Revolution Growth has invested $20 million in Lolly Wolly Doodle, an online retailer with a just-in-time manufacturing process. The money will allow the Lexington, NC, company to hire an additional 100 people for operations and manufacturing jobs. Plans are also in the works to significantly add to its technology and marketing team in New York.
Lolly Wolly Doodle refines its product designs based on real-time feedback from customers and produces made-to-order children’s clothing. Revolution Growth Co-Founder Steve Case says that this is something that companies such as Dell pioneered in the computer industry more than 20 years ago.
Founded in 2008 by Brandi Temple, Lolly Wolly Doodle has gained local and national attention for its use of social media to grow its business. Currently 60 percent of its sales are generated through Facebook. The company focuses on boys and girls from newborn to 12 and Temple and her team design 15 to 20 new patterns a day.
