In the two months since the earthquake hit Haiti, Kids in Distressed Situations (K.I.D.S.) has collected more than $15 million worth of new products to deliver to people impacted by the tragedy. The organization reported that 116 companies, both large and small, have responded by donating apparel, shoes, blankets, hats, nutrition products, water, diapers and more for those in need.

“With generous support from manufacturers and retailers of children’s products, we were there to help the survivors of hurricanes Katrina and Rita and the Indian Ocean tsunami, and our experience has served us well in Haiti,” noted K.I.D.S. board chairman Peter Rosenthal. According to K.I.D.S. president Janice Weinman, “Many of the donations to K.I.D.S. have already been shipped to Haiti or will be sent in the next few weeks. They are being securely and efficiently distributed through 18 key partner agencies on the ground in Haiti that know the country well from years of experience.”

K.I.D.S. has worked in Haiti through various partners since 1995, maintaining a constant presence in the capital city of Port-au-Prince and the Central Plateau region, providing apparel, shoes, and books to vulnerable children. The charity is primarily working with Operation Compassion, which has been helping Haiti’s poor for the last 10 years. K.I.D.S.’s partner Fashion Delivers, which solicits donations from the adult product industries, is also contributing to the effort.

To contribute new products to the continued Haitian support, call (800) 266-3314 or use the online form at: www.kidsdonations.org/make_donation/product_form.cfm. K.I.D.S. is also accepting cash donations to help defray distribution costs. For every $10 in cash, K.I.D.S. can deliver at least $100 of donated products.
