Kids in Distressed Situations (K.I.D.S.) and its partner charity Fashion Delivers have been coordinating relief efforts to aid children and families near Port-au-Prince, Haiti, left in need after last Tuesday’s 7.0-magnitude earthquake. News reports estimate the quake and aftershocks have affected an estimated 1.8 million residents. K.I.D.S. is seeking donations of desperately needed new products from retailers and manufacturers and is also collecting monetary support via public donations pledged online at www.KIDSdonations.org.

K.I.D.S., which has maintained a constant presence in Haiti since 1995, sent an initial supply of apparel, lunch coolers and children’s books last week and has more on the way. “With the fantastic support of product from K.I.D.S., Operation Compassion has more than 20 containers either in port or en route with relief supplies for those devastated by the largest earthquake to hit Haiti in 200 years,” said Dave Lorency, president of Operation Compassion. The charity seeks more of these items along with desperately needed products, such as shelter items (particularly blankets) and apparel (work gloves, boots, children’s wear in particular). Companies can donate products via www.KIDSdonations.org or by calling (800) 266-3314.
