The Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association (JPMA) recently hosted a regulatory summit to give members and other industry participants a comprehensive review of regulatory and legislative issues affecting the industry. Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) chairman Inez Tenenbaum gave the event’s keynote address, highlighting the growing partnership of the CPSC, JPMA and its members “to commit all of our energy and all of our expertise to the safety of children.”

According to Brenda Berg of Scandinavian Child, the newly elected JPMA chairwoman, the organization is taking its advocacy efforts for practical and reasonable regulations to new levels. “I am confident we can work together to meet the ever-increasing demands on our industry in the coming year. The 2010 Summit and the members who participated prove the commitment to JPMA and demonstrate the power of leadership in our industry.”

Additional highlights included presentations on going green; saving your brand; what to do when a recall hits; an update and overview from the CPSC compliance division; and minimum advertised pricing policies. The summit concluded with a visit to Capitol Hill, where attendees had a chance to meet their Congressional representatives and discuss how the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act and the continuing climate of intense product safety scrutiny is affecting the livelihood of the juvenile products industry. For more, visit www.jpma.org.
