Everyone’s favorite fur-ball is set to return just in time for this Christmas season. The Hasbro toy, which is priced at $60, has updated features from its ’90s counterpart. Furby now boasts LED eyes, sensors, an accelerometer and the ability to communicate with an iPhone and iPad app on which a consumer can talk with and feed the toy. Hasbro’s U.S. Marketing Director Kenny Davis says it was such technology that inspired them to bring Furby back for a new generation. “The original Furby was more than an animatronic toy; it was the first toy that appeared to have a brain. We have been thinking about the ways to give Furby a real personality,” he says. “We decided if we wanted to successfully make a toy where a kid wants to form a relationship with it, this is the technology we need.” The toy will hit shelves beginning in September.
