Did you catch the fabulous illustrations of our Earnie Award-winners in the November/December issue? The fashion drawings were the work of Jennie Han, a current student at Parsons The New School for Design. A previous intern for New York fashion designers Bonnie Young and Jill Stuart as well as accessory company Added Results, Han now has her eyes set on a career in children’s wear, and was thrilled to contribute images to our publication.

Han felt her whimsical, intricate drawings helped energize the Earnie winners’ best-selling items. “To me, [they] were like beautifully designed machines; my sketching style was a battery that provided them energy to work and become lively.” Han’s cartoon-like characters featured real-life prints and textures to convey the garments as accurately as possible. “The process for me is almost like dressing those cut-out paper dolls with different clothes,” she added, noting that having a chance to study the winners’ samples proved a fantastic learning experience on construction, proportion and detail work as well.

Keep an eye out for more of Han’s work in the future, both in and outside of the children’s market. She was recently named one of three finalists in the Henri Bendel/Parson’s handbag design competition; the winner will be announced in April.
