Marketplace Web sites Craigslist and eBay are allowing illegal used cribs to be sold, according to USA Today. A review of the sites found that many of the cribs listed for sale violated recent requirements instituted by the Consumer Product Safety Commission that went into effect June 28. USA Today notes that virtually all cribs manufactured before the new standard are now illegal to sell, because they don’t have the stronger hardware, mattress supports and slats required to pass rigorous new tests that mimic long-term use, or are drop-side versions deemed hazardous by the CPSC.

EBay agreed to shut down its used crib auctions within a few weeks, according to a statement by eBay and the CPSC provided to USA Today on Saturday. Craigslist said Friday that it recently updated its "prohibition notices and information page" about used cribs at CPSC’s request but noted that the site’s listings are moderated by site users.
