9Threads website was selected from nearly 3,500 entrants as one of five finalists for the coveted SXSW Interactive Awards in the Business category. The SXSW Interactive Awards are widely recognized as “the Oscars of the Web world”—the industry’s most sought-after accolade.
For the last 25 years, SXSW has provided a venue for showcasing independent film, original music and in the last 14 of those years, SXSW has served as the country’s premier platform for emerging technologies, particularly in the digital sphere.
“The fact that the 9Threads website was chosen as a finalist for a SXSW Interactive Award is a huge validation of the incredibly creative work coming from our strategy-driven team of digital developers and web designers,” said Rita Polidori O’Brien, VP of Business Development for 9Threads. “Our website is a calling card to show companies within the fashion, beauty and retail verticals that we have superior capabilities, and the SXSW nominating committee recognized that.”
“The ‘Canvas’ is actually one huge multi-directional website of approximately 7500 pixels by 6800 pixels, where nearly all of our content is displayed,” explains David Sutula, VP of Digital Strategy at 9Threads. “The beauty of the idea is that it allows for nearly limitless expansion in all directions and the opportunity to break free from traditional navigation restrictions. It also embraces the gesture-enabled browsing environment of the iPad, iPhone, and other iOS devices.”
The winner of the SXSW Interactive Award in Business was announced at the Annual SXSW Interactive Awards Ceremony on March 15th in Austin, Texas. This year SXSW presented awards for online projects launched or completely redesigned in 2010, in 17 categories. Entries were judged on visual design, creativity, content, and user experience. In the Business category—which recognizes outstanding achievements in online materials devoted to the needs of for-profit businesses—the other finalists included Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama: Be You, Diesel SS10: A Hundred Lovers, Get Satisfaction: Overhaul and Red Tiki. And while Get Satisfaction took home the prize, the 9Threads team was thrilled with the honor of being nominated in such a competitive field.
