Universal is teaming up with Pretty Ugly LLC to represent the digital realm of Uglydoll, which includes apps, widgets, games and virtual goods. Illumination Entertainment, part of Universal Pictures, is also developing a feature film with the Uglydoll characters. “Uglydoll is a beloved brand and a household name around the globe,” says Stephanie Sperber, president of Universal Partnerships and Licensing. “The unique world in which these distinctive characters exist will translate perfectly across digital platforms and our goal will be to find digital creative partners committed to maintaining the Uglydoll voice and staying true to Uglydoll’s core independent spirit.” Alita Friedman, chief brand officer of Pretty Ugly, LLC, says Universal is sure to bring new life to the characters and introduce them to a wider audience. “We are exhilarated to work with Universal on this partnerships and amuse our fans with exciting, fresh and hilarious content,” she says.
