In support of local communities and the annual national service event “Make A Difference Day,” Kids In Distressed Situations (K.I.D.S.) has launched its first annual “Make A Difference Day Times Ten.” For every dollar that is donated to K.I.D.S. throughout the month of October, K.I.D.S. will contribute ten times that amount in the form of new merchandise to the donor’s hometown. For example, if $10 is donated from Northern New Jersey, $100 worth of books will be donated to a Newark library or after-school program. If $50 is donated from Los Angeles, $500 worth of new clothing will be donated to a homeless shelter on Skid Row.
“As part of our ongoing commitment to provide product to local communities, we wanted to offer people another option of giving back,” said Dr. Janice Weinman, president of K.I.D.S. “As we celebrate neighbors helping neighbors, we are so pleased to be launching this initiative.”
All “Make A Difference Day Times Ten” donors will be featured on the K.I.D.S. website. Donations may be multiplied by twenty if an employer matches the gift. To find out whether a specific employer participates in the matching gift program with K.I.D.S., call (212) 279-5493 x208.
The 20th annual “Make A Difference Day,” an event created by USA Weekend, will take place on Saturday, Oct. 23 (it is held annually on the fourth Sunday of October). Last year, three million volunteers came together for the event to help their communities.
