After closing her showroom at the San Francisco Gift Center in February of this year, Gloria Davis of Gloria Davis Kids Wear & Accessories decided to take her show on the road. Citing the recession and the loss of other Gift Center children’s showrooms as the reasons for her decision to make a change, Davis said her new traveling service—coined the California Kids Caravan—has been a great success to date. “My sales on the road [have] exceeded showroom sales,” she reported.
Davis is steering her caravan across California, stopping at hotels in key cities within her territory and working with local accounts. “The caravan allows me to see more retailers and it is convenient for my customers,” she said. Other California children’s reps have joined Davis in her travels, and she noted more have expressed interest. “I hope that more reps and/or manufacturers will join me. It’s affordable, plus we really cover California well. In addition, it is a great service to our customers.”
