Macy’s has announced a series of special family events and promotions meant to make it a destination for back-to-school shopping. “Our goal for back-to-school is to create an environment where moms and kids can have fun together as they prep for a new school year,” said Martine Reardon, executive vice president of marketing. “Our task is to make the experience easy, enjoyable and entertaining, so we continue to layer on new elements that offer education and interactivity.”

As the school year approaches, the retailer is teaming with Kidz Bop, a music brand targeting kids ages 5 to 12, for its fall ad campaign. The group will perform at select locations, and a sweepstakes winner will win a trip to New York to see the band live. Macy’s is also partnering with Reading Is Fundamental for a fundraiser to support children’s literacy. In addition, Macy’s 5th Annual Spelling Bee will be held in 30 cities, with a final round taking place in New York. The winner will receive a Kaplan tutoring scholarship plus a $500 Scholastic gift card. For more, visit www.macys.com.
