Seasons UV Solutions of Toronto, best known for its SunSmart line of children’s UV swim and playwear, is taking action to grow its U.S. presence. “We are bigger and better,” said president Joanne Speight, noting the company has purchased a new 250,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in mainland China, established showrooms in Hong Kong, purchased a new head office and warehouse in Milton, Ontario, and entered into a joint venture with Concord, Mass.-based Real Kids Shades.
For 2010, the SunSmart line–which offers a UPF protection rating of 50 UPF–includes a tweaked Beach & Bike shirt with a longer back as well as UV-activated inks that change color as the sun’s rays intensifies. Speight noted that Superman products remain a bestseller for specialty stores, and the company will add to its licensed range in 2011 as well as launch different collections aimed at various market tiers.
Launched in 1999 under the name SunSmart, the company merged with Seasons Limited in 2008 to form Seasons UV Solutions. It plans to enter the adult UV market in the next year.
