The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) approved the appointment of seven independent scientists to serve on a Chronic Hazard Advisory Panel (CHAP) to examine the potential effects on children’s health of phthalates and phthalate alternatives as used in children’s toys and child-care articles. In other Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act news, the CPSC will be holding several workshops related to the consumer product safety incident database Jan. 11th and 12th at CPSC headquarters in Bethesda, Md. The commission will be seeking comments on a range of topics, including how to design the site, how to ensure the accuracy of submitted data, how incident reports should be submitted, how manufacturers should be notified if their products are listed in the database.
